NUS Hollywood Lab, established in July 2006, will be part of the IDMI. As an outpost for NUS, the lab serves to network with top IDM institutions in the US and facilitates placement of NUS students to do research internship with these institutions. In 2007, we have had 5 NUS students interning at the American Film Institute, NBC Universal, UCLA, and USC. We are working on bringing more NUS students in 2008 to intern at partner institutions of the NUS Hollywood Lab. More information is available at Hollywood Website.
More overseas outposts may be established in the future to help the Institute grow its network of research partners and enable Singapore researchers to learn and gain exposure in these leading research labs. It is envisaged that IDMI's application-inspired upstream research will also result in strong intellectual properties which will be protected by international patents. IDMI will work closely with NUS' Industry Liaison Office under the NUS Enterprise to proactively transfer IDM knowledge and technology to industry. They will also promote and assist some entrepreneurial staff and graduates to incubate spin-off companies in due course.
