Interactive Multimedia Lab / ECE Department

Designation:
Research fellow and Research Engineer
Research Area:
Applications are invited to work at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National University of Singapore (NUS). The successful applicant will join a team of researchers in the Interactive Digital Media with a focus on Augmented or Mixed Reality, Mobile Computing, and Computer-Human Interaction. The work is highly inter-disciplinary in nature and has applications in arts, architecture, medicine, education, entertainment, etc.
Requirements
Research Fellow Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. degree from a reputable university.
  • Proven track record of research in computer vision, pattern recognition, or human-machine interfaces.
  • Experience with software development in C/C++ under Windows.
  • Fluency in English (written and oral).
  • Good publication list.
Research Engineer Qualifications:
  • Practical knowledge in any of the following areas: computer vision, pattern recognition, mobile computing, or human-machine interfaces.
  • Practical knowledge in any of the following areas: computer vision, pattern recognition, mobile computing, or human-machine interfaces.
  • Solid software development expertise in C/C++ under Windows.
  • Experience with OpenGL and/or Direct3D programming and/or Game Engine is a plus.
  • Fluency in English (written and oral).
  • Good publication list is a plus.
Responsibilities
Research Fellow Responsibilities:
  • Carry out research in the areas of augmented or mixed reality, computer vision, and computer-human interaction.
  • Develop novel techniques and algorithms for interactive media applications.
  • Contribute to and promote research activities of the Interactive Multimedia Lab.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student projects.
Research Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement algorithms and systems for interactive media applications.
  • Support the research activities of the Interactive Multimedia Lab
  • Supervise undergraduate student projects and assist postgraduate student projects.
The appointment can commence immediately (for Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident) and will be initially for one year with possibility for extensions. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. For foreigner, the overall process may take 2-3 months from the day of the interview.

Social Robotics Laboratory

Designation:
Post-doctoral research fellow (up to 3 years)
Research Area:
We are seeking an outstanding and responsible post-doctoral research fellows to contribute on projects in the areas of social robotics and bio-mechanics. The advancement of computational power and artificial intelligence has made it possible for robots to mimic many complex human abilities, thereby transcending their traditional role as utilitarian tools on factory floors. In the Social Robotics Lab, we investigate core enabling technologies as well as the design and development of sociable robots for applications in edutainment, healthcare and companionship. Applicants must have a doctorate in a relevant subject such as robotics, electronics, mechanical, computer science, physics or math; a proven capacity for high-quality research and an international publication record. It would be a plus if the candidate possesses strong C / C++, programming skills, hardware development, control engineering.

Multimodal Analysis Laboratory

Research Area:

Requirements /
Pre-requisites:
The Multimodal Analysis Lab in the Interactive Digital Media Institute (IDMI) at the National University of Singapore has immediate openings for Research Fellows with expertise in the areas of multimedia data management, multimedia analysis, streaming media management and distribution, video processing or some related field. The Multimodal Analysis Lab is performing cutting edge research and developing sophisticated applications in the areas of multimodal analysis and media management. Experience with large-scale storage systems, multimedia databases, distributed programming tools and network protocols are desired. The candidate should have a PhD for Research Fellow (Level A) or a MS for Research Fellow (Level B) in the field of computer science. The candidate should have a strong commitment to research, and a publishing record commensurate with their qualifications and experience. The candidate should have (or have the potential to develop) an international standing in their field of research. The candidate should possess good communication skills in English, and be willing to work as part of an interdisciplinary research team of computer scientists and social scientists.

The Multimodal Analysis Lab also has immediate openings for Research Assistants to work on research projects in the lab. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in computer science, preferably with expertise in the research areas described above. Candidates should possess strong programming skills.

Ambient Intelligence Laboratory

Mixed Reality Laboratory

Designation:
Full time research assistant in Mobile Human-Computer Interaction
Research Area:
ECE/IDMI at NUS is looking for a full research assistant that will last 3 years. The new RA will participate in a funded project concerning mobile interaction design. The position will involve a number of responsibilities including designing/programming mobile phone games, conduct behavioral research, scheduling/testing subjects, analyzing data and scientific information visualization.
Requirements / Pre-requisites:
  • Candidates have received a BS/BA degree or training in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/Human-Computer Interaction/Interaction Design/Psychology or related field
  • Experiences in programming (JAVA, C++ or Embedded C++), mobile devices and user interface design
  • Experiences in interactive media prototyping tools (e.g. Photoshop, Flash etc.)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively engage and convey ideas to cross-functional technical and non-technical teams
  • Knowledge of engineering statistics
  • Knowledge of computer games and 3D virtual worlds
Salary will commensurate with applicant's qualification and experience.
